In parallel to my conceptual work I've been an ornamental blacksmith and metal fabricator. I was hired by LAB Saigon to bridge the gap between disciplines adding story and color to their new project site for Sunlife Vietnam.
I used flame to draw iridescent color from the polished stainless steel. The gradient tones added an organic quality in bold contrast to the reflective surface. You can watch the process video below.
I worked a few weeks alone under the blazing hot sun to complete the project. It was a feat of endurance with a spectacularly beautiful finish, and I spent many hours in a reflective state both literally and figuratively speaking.
